ActivInspire is the educational software that powers the ActivClassroom. It is an effective teaching tool that gives teachers the ability to blend real-time, real-world experience with the learning process all while using sound, motion and visually engaging graphics to bring lessons to life.  The ActivDriver is the piece of software that allows the ActivBoard to talk to your computer.  And Resource packs offer you a quick way to get ahead in your flipcharts by utilizing built in objects within ActivInspire.

Here we will guide you through installing both either on the MAC or a PC for the very first time.  If you already have ActivInspire already installed please click this link to Upgrade ActivInspire. You will also want to upgrade your ActivDriver.

For the installation you will need administrative rights on your computer to install the software so please contact your IT staff to make sure you can install the software.

  1. For PC users (XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7) download the ActivInspire Suite from this link and save to your computer.  If you are on a MAC (OS X 10.5, 10.6) download the ActivInspire Suite from this link and save to your computer.
  2. Install the software per the defaults.  For MAC users you will need to first install ActivInspire.mpkg and then the ActivDriver.pkg.
    • Optional for MAC - If your computer does not have Flash Player you may go back to the Install ActivInspire windows to install the Flash Player program.
  3. Once the installation is complete, find the ActivInspire program icon on your desktop and open the program.
  4. The Promethean License Agreement screen will now appear.  Input your User Name and Organization.  Input the ActivInspire Serial Number found on the sticker located towards the bottom right corner of your board.  If you don't have your serial number click here to obtain a new one.
  5. The first time you open ActivInspire it will prompt you for your preferred user interface, we recommend you select ActivStudio unless you are teaching grades K-2 then you could use ActivPrimary.  Check the box on the left that "I accept the terms...," then press OK.

Now we will install the Resource Packs.

  1. Download the Resource Packs from this link and save them to your computer.  The files are large so it could take between 30-60 minutes.
  2. Open ActivInspire
  3. Go to File > Import > Resource Pack to Shared Resources.
  4. Go to the location you downloaded the Resource Packs to and click Open.
  5. ActivInspire will then upload all the Resource Packs and Index the information for quick access.
