Sometimes when you have issues with the board not properly communicating with your computer you need to update your ActivDriver.  Follow these steps below to get the latest version of the software.  Before you proceed you will need administrative permissions on your computer to install.

  1. Unplug your USB cable from your computer that connects to the Promethean board
  2. Download the latest ActivDriver per your Operating System from the list below
    1. Windows 32 bit - http://resources.iaak.net/downloads/software/ActivDriver_x86_Window...
    2. Windows 64 bit - http://resources.iaak.net/downloads/software/ActivDriver_x64_Window...
    3. Mac - http://resources.iaak.net/downloads/software/ActivDriver_MAC.dmg
  3. After the file has downloaded install per the defaults
  4. Plug back in your USB cable and you are done!

That's it!

There should only be one version of ActivDriver on a MAC; however Windows can have different versions.

When downloading the ActivDrivers for Windows, sometimes there are different versions that are available. I have listed the versions below:

X86(sometimes the alias will be x32)- These are the same version and are needed if installing on a 32 bit operating system. Promethean will only have one listed in the download section. Only download this option if you are running 32 bit.

X64-This version is needed if installing on a 64 bit operating system.

How do you tell what version operating system you are running?

MAC- click on the Apple icon at the top left of the screen. Go to "About This Mac". Look for the Version number, currently the latest Version is 10.6.6 as of 3/31/11.

XP- Right click the My Computer icon on the Desktop. Left click on properties. Under the Computer Name tab it will tell you if its a 64 bit operating system. If nothing is listed it is because you are running 32 bit.

Windows Vista and Windows7- Click on the Start button at the bottom left of the screen. The Start button is the round circle with the Windows logo on it. From Start right click Computer, and left click properties. Towards the middle of the page it will say System. The System Type will tell you if it a 32 or 64 bit operating system.
